ZION OVERLOOK FORMAL SESSION.

Kelly and Bonnie hired me for their day-after formal session in Zion. The photographer they hired wasn’t available to take their photos the day after they got married, and they only had a small window of time that they could take their formals before they left on their honeymoon to Bali. They wanted to do the overlook (which is my favorite place in Zion!!!!). The overlook trail is such a perfect place to take your photos in Zion. It’s a one mile out-and-back trail that only has 187 ft. of elevation gain, and most of that is the stairs right at the very beginning of the trail. It’s mostly flat, which is kind of unbelievable because this is the view that you get! With barely even a hike at all. It’s so easy to just hike up your dress, put on some tennis shoes, and hike to the spot.

This is probably my 15th or so time shooting in Zion, and it really never gets old. This view blows me away every single time. We arrived at the Overlook with just over an hour left of daylight, and we most definitely made the most of it. We got the most beautiful sun flares before the sun went behind the mountains and we got some with the hazy even light before calling it a night.

Kelly and Bonnie had an intimate destination wedding the day before their Zion Overlook formal session, which in my opinion, is the way to go. You can spend your wedding day focusing on spending it with your guests and then spend a separate day focusing on the photos of you two. Kelly is even wearing a different suit jacket than he did on their wedding day, so they do have a fun variety, too.
