Salt Flats Engagements – Bonneville Salt Flats.
It’s no secret that the Salt Flats are one of my favorite places to photograph. I cannot even get over how cool it is there! It honestly blows me away every single time.
Nick and Rachel came all the way from Texas to have their engagements taken at the Salt Flats. Rachel told me that her dream all growing up was to have her engagements at the Salt Flats!! As soon as they got engaged, she told Nick that she didn’t care how they did it, but they were going to Utah so that she could have her dream engagements.
We met out at the flats around 9:00am on a Sunday morning. The sun was fully out, with just a few clouds dispersed throughout the sky. A year ago, that would have made me curl into a ball, rock back and forth, and cry. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?!? I was pumped. I love shooting in full sun, and shooting full sun at the Salt Flats is an actual dream. The sun reflecting off the white salt is magical.
Even though it looks really warm, it was not. It was pretty cold, but the worst part about it is that the dry part of the flats were out just a bit. In order to get to where we wanted to shoot, we had to walk through FREEZING water. That alone was miserable, but I walked across the water in my bare feet and the salt felt like daggers cutting my feet. BUT, I knew I would have to walk through the water, so I took a towel, and once I was dried off, it wasn’t too bad!! Nick was a champ walking through the water, too, because he also carried Rachel!
In the middle of their shoot, a plane almost landed right behind us! It was so cool!! Plus, we had the place to ourselves.
